Any further information for competitors will be found on appropriate Notice Boards at Rutland Sailing Club. Corrections to Sailing Instructions Those with sharp eyes will have noted that there are two errors on page 6 of the Sailing Instructions as published on the website. On the top line “LIBERY” should be “LIBERTY”. Half way down the page, delete LIBERTY so that the line reads “ACCESS 303 TWO PERSON. These errors will be corrected with a notice on the Official Notice Board. Registration, Measurement, Charter Boats and Free Sailing Practice For those arriving early at the venue, the first priority should be to register and then present boats for inspection and measurement by the inspection team. Liberty sailors will also need to present themselves for weighing in normal sailing clothing. Sailors with charter boats booked will wish to find their boats and take them over. For those who want to get afloat, arrangements have been made for safety boat cover for practice sailing as follows: Friday, 4 June, and Saturday, 5 June, from 10:00 to 15:00 It is not yet confirmed that hoist operators will be available for these periods. Shore support helpers are unlikely to be available, so sailors will need to arrange any help needed to rig and launch boats. On Sunday, 6 June, sailing practice will not be permitted before the briefing at 11:00 and formal Practice Races at 14:00 (two-person classes) and 16:00 (one-person classes). Results Service during the Championships For those supporters not at the sailing club but wishing to keep up with the results day-by-day, provisional results will be published daily on the Rutland Sailing Club website – http://rutlandsc.co.uk/cms/index.php – Open Results. Newsletter Number 7 dated 17 May 2010 Request for Shirt Sizes - Urgent The Organising Committee has agreed that all sailors and full-time volunteer helpers should receive an “Access Worlds” polo shirt. This is being handled by Pauline Harrison, email:- PaulineHar@aol.com – who need to know chest sizes by 19 May. Please do not confuse her with the other Pauline in the Race Office. Please send her your name and chest size in inches or in metric without delay. Do not send S, M, L, XL etc. as every shirt manufacturer has a different idea about sizes. Equipment Inspection All the boats taking part in the Championships will be inspected in accordance with appropriate Class Rules and weighed before they race. This will take place by the gantry near the Bosun’s workshop at the eastern end of the Sailing Club grounds on 3, 4, and 5 June. Full details, including a site plan, will be given at Registration. Particular points to note are: • When presenting boats for inspection and weighing, all the equipment that will be on the boat when racing, including any batteries and servo equipment, must be available. The mast should be unstepped, or easily removable, and the keel in place.
• Lifting slings for boats will be provided. Own slings may be used if preferred.
• If it is found that a boat does not comply with class rules, the competitor will be told why and given the opportunity to make any necessary changes. It is therefore advantageous to present boats for inspection as soon as possible after arrival. For chartered boats, assistance will be offered to put the boat in class, with the exception of own sails provided by the charterer.
• For the Access Liberty class, Sailor Weight Equalisation is specified in the Sailing Instructions. Sailors will therefore be weighed as in Access Liberty Class Rules dated April 2010, sub-paras C.5.2 a) and b). If a personal sling is used, it should be brought to the weighing. Personal weighing will probably take place adjacent to the Race Office.
• Sails must be presented for measuring & inspection at the venue notified at Registration.
Space on Hull for Event Sponsors’ Logo All competitors should ensure that the reserved area required by ISAF Regulation 20 is available for the Sponsors’ Logos sticker which is 40cm long by 15cm high. For Access dinghies this is the area near the bow up to 1.2m back from the bow on both sides. The sticker should be applied as near the front and as high as possible under the gunwhale. For SKUD18’s it must be in the area up to 1.37m from the bow and applied as above. Where a boat has other sponsorship signs near the bow which cannot easily be removed or covered, competitors should seek advice from the Chief Equipment Inspector, which may be to abide by Regulation 20 and remove the offending stickers.
Cash whilst at Rutland All competitors and helpers coming to Rutland Sailing Club should be aware that, due to its rural location, the nearest cash machine is about 5 miles or 8 Km away. Please ensure that you bring with you enough Sterling cash for immediate requirements, including meals bought from the club kitchen, as debit or credit cards (or foreign currency) cannot be accepted. Entries to Date With late entries there are now 83 entries from 10 countries. See Access Worlds Entries to Date for the full list. Entries to Date When entries closed on 24 April there were 80 entries from 10 countries with 27 requests for chartered boats. See Access Worlds Entries to Date for the full list. Evening Meals during the Event All competitors are automatically booked in for the Opening Dinner on Sunday, 6th, the Barbeque on Tuesday, 8th, and Closing Dinner on Friday 11th June. Some helpers and supporters have also booked these meals. As numbers are critical for the two dinners, no additional requests can be accepted. On other evenings, the kitchen will be open, but those wishing to have their evening meal at the Sailing Club will need to book these by the end of the lunch period on the day. Full details, including evening meal times, will be notified to all participants on registration. On Thursday, 10 June, meals must be taken before 7.30pm so that the kitchen staff can cater for the club members who race on that evening. Special Dietary Requests All sailors and helpers who have already booked evening meals or packed lunches must advise any special dietary requirement – vegetarian, gluten free etc. – as soon as possible to the Race Office, access2010@live.co.uk . No notification, no special meals! Equipment to bring For chartered boats, competitors are required to bring their own sails correctly marked up as required by the Notice of Race Amendment 1, unless special arrangements have been made. Competitors are also required to bring their own Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs) with permanent buoyancy as notified in the recent amendment to the Notice of Race. Those who need transferring by hoist will also need to bring their own slings. Helpers who will need to go onto the pontoons must also bring their own PFDs or they will not be allowed to assist on pontoons. An additional item for those boats with batteries for servo control systems is a Battery Charger which can be used with a UK electrical socket. Batteries will have to be removed for recharging at overnight accommodation. Useful websites: 1. Access Class Association (UK) – www.accessclass.org.uk/ – for all information; 2. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Newsletter Number 5 dated 11 April 2010 Entries to Date 75 entries have now been received from 11 countries with 28 requests for chartered boats which will stretch the resources of ACA(UK), although it is expected that all requests will be met. See Access Worlds Entries to Date for the full list which is updated weekly.
Forms Required and Payment All Competitors should have sent three forms to the Race Office. These are: 1. Entry Form 2. Regatta Fees Form with full payment required by 24 April to avoid a 50% surcharge 3. Administration Form Any competitor who has not sent in all three forms should please do so without delay so that the organisers have a clear picture of the logistic requirements. Any UNATTACHED HELPERS who wish to attend the Opening and/or Closing Dinners must also send in the Catering Request form with full payment by 24 April. They do not need to include the “Packed Lunch” item, as a selection of hot and cold lunches will be available for shore-based helpers from the Sailing Club galley. All the forms are available from the website www.accessclass.org.uk Chartered Boats (Application List now closed) Competitors who have arranged to charter boats are reminded that they are required to supply their own sail or sails, correctly marked in accordance with the Class Rules. Liberty Class Rules Updated Access Liberty Sailors will wish to note the revised Class Rules dated April 2010 now on the IACA website. These will apply at the 2010 World Championships. The only significant changes from the December 2009 version are to sub-paragraphs C.2.1(d) and (e) and paragraph C.5 which have been adjusted to simplify and clarify the hull weighing and weight equalisation procedures. Helpers for Sailors who need to be lifted manually into their boats Any Competitors who expect to be lifted into their boats rather than using the hoists on the jetties with slings must bring their own helpers to lift them, as the local voluntary helpers are not permitted to do this. Local helpers will only assist competitors using the jetty hoist for which, as advised previously, competitors must bring their own slings. Useful websites: 1. Newsletter Number 4 dated 15 March 2010
Entries to Date 61 entries have now been received but still only 2 SKUD18s and no 2.3 full-servos. See Access Worlds Entries to Date for the full list which will be updated weekly. Requests for Charter Although eleven Access 303Ws and eight Access 2.3s have so far been requested for charter, there are still a few more boats that could be made available. Requests should be submitted as soon as possible and not later than 31 March. They will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis. Remember that competitors in charter boats are expected to bring a sail or sails with them, correctly marked in accordance with the Class Rules. Organising Committee Meeting There was a meeting of the Organising Committee at Rutland Sailing Club on Thursday, 11 March. A number of decisions were made; the most important affecting competitors are: • An overall outline programme was agreed and will be published on the website. • The earliest that visiting boats can be delivered to Rutland Sailing Club is Thursday, 3 June, and all boats must be removed by Monday, 14 June. The Sailing Club is normally closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays (not, of course, 8/9 June!). Any World Championship visitors wishing to use the facilities of the sailing club outside the period 3 to 14 June must contact the club manager, email:Manager@rutlandsc.co.uk. • It is expected to arrange free practice sailing sessions with hoist available and safety boat cover on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 3/4/5 June. Sailors will be expected to provide their own helpers. Times will be published in the programme and a newsletter when finalised. • Tourist information for attractions in the area will be provided to all competitors. • Liberty Weight Equalisation will be applied. N.B. The Liberty Class Rules are in the process of amendment to simplify this process and a revised version will be posted on the IACA Website – Technical very soon. • Numbers for the Opening and Closing Ceremony Dinners are critical and cannot exceed a maximum allowed in the Sailing Club building. Although all competitors will be able to attend, a limit may have to be placed on helpers and supporters. Again a first-come-first-served principle will apply, so applications should be submitted without delay. All the forms are available on the website. • Only one application has been received for the use of a Support Power Boat. Any additional applications should be submitted without delay. The deadline is 1 April. Useful websites: 1. Access Class Association (UK) – www.accessclass.org.uk/ – for all information; 2. International Access Class Association – www.accessclass.org/ – for class rules etc.; 3. Rutland Sailing Club – http://rutlandsc.co.uk/cms/index.php – for local information; 4. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Newsletter Number 3 dated 3 March 2010 Charter Possibility now open to all As there have been only 13 requests from sailors in non-European countries to charter Access 2.3s or Access 303Ws, it has been decided to make charter boats available to sailors from all countries. The new closing date for applications is 31 March. Charters are still restricted to manual Access 2.3s and Access 303Ws, as these are the only boats available in the UK at present. The Boat Charter application form is available at: www.accessclass.org.uk/imgs/554AWC_2010_Form_Charter.doc .
Entries to Date Fifty five entries had been received by 1 March and a full list has been published on the website. See Access Worlds Entries to Date It is disappointing that we have no entries yet in the 2.3 Full Servo class and only two in the SKUD18 class. If you intend to enter in these classes, please send in your Entry Forms. Questions and Answers (Q&A) A first edition of three Questions received, and Answers from the Organising Committee, has been published on the website at: 2010 Access Worlds Q&As . Servo Boats also compete in Open Classes Following clarification from IACA, it is confirmed that boats competing in the Access Liberty and Access 2.3 “Full-Servo” divisions will also be eligible for prizes in the respective “Open” divisions. The two Liberty divisions will start together and so will the two 2.3 divisions. Access Keel Weights – Get yours checked! Competitors are reminded of the keel weight limits introduced in the most recent version of the Class Rules. These are: • Access Liberty: Minimum 70Kg; Maximum 80Kg; • Access 303W: Minimum 30Kg; Maximum 35Kg; • Access 2.3: Minimum 20Kg; Maximum 25Kg (Full Servo 35Kg). It was noted that some Access Liberty keels used at the 2009 Access Liberty World Championships in New Zealand were under this new limit. Any keels which, when weighed at Rutland, are outside the limits will not be allowed in the 2010 World Championships. If in doubt, get your keel weighed and corrected if necessary. There are no facilities to adjust keel weights at Rutland Sailing Club. Revised Requirements for Access Class Sail Numbers It has been decided to amend a requirement in the Notice of Race sub-paragraph 8.2 which reads: “Sails brought for use on chartered boats must display the sail number of a boat registered in the competitor’s country.” The requirement now is: “Sails brought for use on chartered boats must display a unique number and include the appropriate national letters of the competitors.” If in doubt about the acceptability of a particular sail number, advice should be sought from the Race Office, email: access2010@live.co.uk . Catering for Helpers and Supporters (repeated from Newsletter No 2) There are limited outside catering possibilities in the area of Rutland Sailing Club and so all sailors and helpers should consider using the on-site catering facilities. An additional form has been placed on the website for helpers and supporters who are not linked to a particular competitor to give their catering requirements. This must be completed, and sent with payment, by the entry deadline of 24 April. The form can be found at: www.accessclass.org.uk/imgs/922AWC_2010_Form__Helper_Catering_Fees.doc .
